The London Knights handed the Windsor Spitfires their first shut-out loss at home of the 2017 season Sunday.
It was a battle of local goaltenders with Chatham native, Joseph Raaymakers getting the better of Amherstburg's Michael DiPietro in a 4-0 drumming at the WFCU Centre.
Centre Cliff Pu opened the scoring for London, deflecting his first of two goals past DiPietro at 5:46 of the first period.
The Knights kept their foot on the gas, handing Windsor its third straight loss heading into a five-day break.
Windsor Centre Aaron Luchuk says a few breaks could have changed the outcome of the game
"Honestly I don't think we played that bad, I mean we hit some posts, in the second period I hit two. We had some open-nets we just didn't convert on,” says Luchuk. "They had two tipped-in goals, kind of lucky bounces. It just wasn't our day today."
Raaymakers stopped 32 shots on his way to a player of the game selection; Dipietro stopped 25 of 29 shots.
Defenceman Austin McEneny says Sunday's game proves pouring shots on net doesn't always guarantee a win.
"You're going to have to score goals to win the game, we had like 35 shots, you have to put the puck in the back of the net," says McEneny. "Our top line can't be scoring all our goals, we've got to have a little more depth here."
Spits Head Coach Trevor Letowski agrees with McEneny, the team needs depth to put in 60 hard-minutes.
"Outside of the top few guys we're still trying to define roles of who is our second-line line players, who can we count on," says Letowski. "No one has really stepped up and taken the reins, so we keep trying different players."
Windsor remains third in the West-Division, 11-points behind the first place Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The Spits are back at home Friday Nov. 24 against the Kingston Frontenacs, tune into AM800 for all the action.
