The Windsor Spitfires selected Jean-Luc Foudy with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 OHL Draft Saturday.
Foudy comes from the Toronto Titans of the Greater Toronto Hockey League — the 5'10" centre put up 60-points last season including 25-goals.
Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychel tells AM800's Steve Bell the 15 year old comes from a family of next-level athletes — his big brother Liam is in his second season with the rival London Knights where the 18-year-old centreman put up a career high 40-points in 2018.
"Jean-Luc has a brother in London, our rivals, real good player," he says. "He [Jean-Luc] is an athlete, he's OFFSA champion in 110m hurdles, and his parents were both in the Olympics."
He anticipates being able to use Foudy in any situation.
"This kid's got a good change of gears, a four-way skater, intelligent, can shoot it and also pass it, and he's right-handed," says Rychel. "We wanted to address our forwards; our defense is pretty strong coming back so we addressed it with him."
Windsor picked twice in the third- round and with Michael DiPietro destined to move on to the NHL they took Detroit goalie Xavier Medina with the 59th pick overall.
"We've watched him a ton being in Detroit, he really handles the puck well and obviously he'll come in and be mentored under one of the best goalies and character kids we have with Mikey," Rychel added.
The Spitfires drafted Ottawa winger Kyle McDonald with their second pick and Brantford defenseman Dylan Robinson to start off the third round.
Windsor took Tecumseh natives Johnny Ulicny and Aleksa Babic in the 13th and 14th rounds.
Sun Parlor Panther centre Ryan Gagnier — also from Tecumseh — was the highest selection out of Windsor-Essex. He was taken in the third round by the Oshawa Generals.
