Windsor bounced back from a lack-luster start to come out of Thursday's match-up at the WFCU Centre with a win over the Barrie Colts.
There wasn't much to cheer about in the first frame after Luke Bignell scored the lone goal of the period to put Barrie up 1-0 over the Spitfires.
Luke Kutkevicius' third of the season evened things up for Windsor to kick off the second, before the Colts pulled away again with back to back goals from Ben Hawerchuk, and Bignell, who scored his second goal of the game and third of season. Windsor's Daniel D'Amico kept things close after putting one past Barrie goaltender Jet Greaves to wrap the second down 3-2.
Connor Corcoran scored on the power play to tie things up to start the third before Chis Playfair gave the Spitfires a 4-3 lead to complete the comeback win, his first of the season.
"I tried not to let it get to me, but obviously when you haven't gotten one yet this many games into the season ... it's a weight off my shoulders," Playfair says.
Michael DiPietro stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced for the win. He tells AM800 News the team bounced back from some sloppy play over the first two frames.
"It cost us with two goals that were easily preventable, but the third period speaks for itself," he says.
At one point Windsor didn't allow a shot on net for 14-minutes in the third.
"We just kind of simplified and got pucks in behind them, because of that we drove the offense for the most part in the third period right until the end," says Head Coach Trevor Letowski.
Windsor is back in action Friday against the Niagara Ice Dogs at the Meridian Centre, puck drops at 7pm.
Tune into AM800 for all the action.
