Traffic was redirected for several hours while firefighters knocked down flames and checked for hotspots at a family home in Amherstburg.
Amherstburg Fire and Rescue were called to a house fire on Howard Ave., near South Side Rd. just before 5pm Sunday, November 26, 2017.
Investigators say a power bar overheated igniting some clothing.
"In the case of last night, the powerbar and extension cord that were attached to it were covered in clothing," says Amherstburg Deputy Fire Chief Lee Tome. "Like any type of electrical device, they will give off some heat."
Tome says the clothing didn't allow the powerbar to dissipate the heat and it started a fire.
No one was hurt and the fire was declared out about an hour later.
Tome says when people purchase a powerbar, people need to make sure they are ULC (Underwriters Laboratory of Canada) or CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved.
