Windsor Police Services continue to investigate an early-morning homicide in east-Windsor.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge says officers were called to the 1100-block of Heathfield Crt. around 1:30am Saturday for a report of shots fired.
"Our patrol officers were dispatched regarding a report of shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene and found numerous people screaming that someone had indeed been shot," says Betteridge. "It appeared there had been a house party at a residence in the vicinity."
He says police arrived outside a house party where they found a Windsor man suffering from a gunshot wound.
"Officers located a 23-year-old man from Windsor who was suffering from gunshot wounds outside of a residence," he says. "The victim was transported to hospital for treatment, the involved area was secured as a crime scene and an investigation was launched."
Neighbour Stephanie Adams wasn't awake for the incident, but her husband witnessed some of what happened.
In an interview with CTV Windsor's Alana Hadadean she says there was an argument and some fighting but things quieted down. Later she says her husband heard four-gun-shots.
"After the gunshots he saw a white car leave and an individual going back towards the home holding his stomach," she says. "A woman started yelling 'he's been shot, he's been shot' and the police and all the emergency vehicles arrived."
Betteridge says Major Crimes Branch and the Forensic Identification Unit were called in to investigate.
"It was quite a chaotic scene when officers first arrived. As I indicated, there was quite a few people on scene indicating that somebody in-deed had been shot," he says. "They were quickly located, transported to hospital, but sadly have succumbed to their injuries and it is now a homicide investigation."
No one was taken into custody in relation to the incident, but Betteridge says the investigation is in its early-stages.
Anyone with information is asked to call Windsor police or Crime Stoppers.
