A Windsor family doctor has been acquitted of all sexual assault charges.
In April 2018, Dr. Bassam El-Tatari, 45, pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexual assault against six different women.
He was accused of inappropriately touching patients in a sexual manner while performing medical exams.
Some of the six female complainants told court he hugged them and made sexually suggestive remarks.
Dr. El-Tatari's lawyer, Bob DiPietro says his client is appeased for the moment.
"He's been through a lot in the last couple of years, he still has issues to deal with the College of Physicians and Surgeons but he's obviously relieved as it pertains to these charges."
Accordingt to DiPietro, it's not all over yet — he says his client still has a hearing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
"Regarding those allegations with similar allegations, the test is obviously different than it is in a criminal case. There, it's on a balance of probabilities, if the evidence is lacked, so a lot of evidentiary things will change through those hearings."
DiPietro says in today's climate, a case like this could serve as a "wake up call."
"Not so much for the women, but for doctors to make sure that any time you have any type of examination as it pertains to physical examinations, that you have nurse or someone else present, otherwise you open yourself up to charges like this."
The allegations involving the six female former patients ranged in dates from 2009 until 2016.
DiPietro says it will be up to a team of lawyers in Toronto to represent El-Tatari when it comes to a hearing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
