The "Party with a Purpose"at Villanova High School is being called a success.
Students raised more than $40,000 for the Windsor-Essex Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society as part of the Relay for Life Event.
About 40 teams made up of 400 students took part in the nine hour walk-a-thon which wrapped up Friday night around 10pm.
Grade 12 student and spokesperson, Elizabeth Sauve says she has been involved in Relay for Life events since grade 10.
"My cousin passed away from cancer three years ago and it really pushed me to go out there and do something to help make sure this happens less and less," says Sauve.
She says it was an inspirational night to be part of.
"Everybody fills out luminary bags in honour or in memory of someone who they know whose cancer has touched their lives."
Sauve says the event included those who are currently battling the disease or who have beat it.
"Everybody who is a survivor who is fighting cancer gets a yellow shirt so we can easily spot them and congratulate them on their journey. They're all invited to the event from anywhere, anybody's family is allowed to come to this event."
The students have raised more than $143,000 over the past three years.
