A trial is underway in a Windsor courtroom for a Toronto man charged with carrying weapons and ammunition, which were discovered after a violent Highway 3 crash.
Police were called on April 26, 2017 to the head-on crash in Tecumseh between Sexton Side Rd. and Walker Rd.
Tecumseh firefighters have testified, they were assessing the passenger in the Lexus when they saw what appeared to be a gun or gun holster.
Tariq Elamin, the passenger, has pleaded not guilty to several weapons offences.
Dwane Osborne was heading into Windsor and stopped at the crash scene to help. While helping emergency crews, he looked into the Lexus and testified, "I saw a gun--a black rifle," in the backseat on the passenger side.
He testified it then became a chaotic scene.
OPP Constable Dean Pfaff testified when paramedics and firefighters removed the driver from the Lexus, they opened his jacket to medically assess him when they found a sash or bandolier containing 20 to 25 shotgun rounds.
Pfaff says he cut the bandolier and when he heard emergency crews yell 'gun, gun, gun' from the passenger side of the Lexus, Pfaff proceeded to arrest the occupants of the vehicle.
He testified the passenger was found to be carrying a rifle in his jogging pants.
The driver of the Lexus, Satvir Singh of Windsor, pleaded guilty to three counts including carrying a prohibited weapon in a careless manner, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a prohibited firearms with ammunition.
An elderly couple was seriously hurt in the other vehicle but the trial is focused on what was found in the car.
The trial is scheduled for three days.
