Environment Canada has downgraded a severe thunderstorm warning for Windsor-Essex.
The area is now under a severe thunderstorm watch.
It says conditions are favourable for dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and torrential rain.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop later this afternoon and persist into the overnight hours.
A line of thunderstorms from Essex to Mitchell's Bay is moving east at about 60km/hour.
Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
Early estimates had between 50mm-100 mm of rain with this system.
