An Amherstburg mother will learn her fate in September for dumping the body of a newborn.
A sentencing hearing took place Friday morning for Samantha Richards, 24, who pleaded guilty in Superior Court in London on May 18th to disposing a newborn's body after delivery.
According to CTV News, the court heard Richards feels shame, guilt and has self-hatred over the past two years because of the offence. She could be seen sitting next to her lawyer wiping away tears during her sentencing hearing.
The baby's body was found in June 2016 in a dumpster in London after police received tips from the public.
Richards' defence is asking for a conditional discharge, while the crown is seeking a conditional or suspended sentence.
With the suspended sentence, Richards would have a criminal record — but with a conditional sentence, she would not have a record.
The judge will hand down the sentence Sept. 26.
