The OPP is issuing a correction and apology after reporting a two-year-old Tecumseh boy had died.
Police now report the toddler is in critical condition at Children's Hospital of Michigan.
OPP say communications with hospital staff were misinterpreted after a second young boy was admitted to the same hospital with very similar circumstances.
The Tecumseh boy was found floating in a backyard pool in the town which prompted police, firefighters and paramedics to respond to the home in the 500-block of Dresden Place around 7:30pm on Tuesday. The boy was rushed to hospital in Detroit where he remains in critical condition.
The OPP is apologizing for the misunderstanding, adding "our prayers are with the family" during a traumatic time.
