One person is dead another is in critical condition in hospital after a crash near Comber around 8am.
Provincial police expect to have Hwy. 77 closed at Lakeshore Rd. 310 for much of the day as a result of the crash.
OPP Constable Jim Root says there were two vehicles involved a tractor trailer and a small white Chevrolet SUV. He says their technical collision investigators are piecing together what happened and if charges are warranted they will be laid.
Root says re-opening the highway won't be easy.
"We have a severed hydro pole here and the tractor trailer was on fire so it's going to be a little longer than normal," says Root. "I think we're going to have this road closed, this portion of Hwy. 77 for several hours. I can even go as far as to say most of the day today."
Root says the driver of the transport truck is the one who died and the driver of the small car has suffered life threatening injuries.
There are detours and closure signs in place and people should avoid the area if possible.
Hwy. 77 re-opened around 10pm.
