he snow we're getting this afternoon is expected to be a bit deeper than initially predicted.
Environment Canada is now increasing the snowfall to as much as 15 cm, or nearly 6 inches.
That comes with a gusty north wind to 40 km/h and a falling temperature.
Severe Weather Preparedness meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the system has slowed down so the snow will last longer in any location.
He says some regions will get more than others.
"There are bands of some heavier snow generally within this larger scale of general snowfall across the area and that's the reason we're now forecasting a little bit higher amounts for the Windsor area" explains Coulson "Through the course of today looking at totals somewhere between 10-15 cm)
"Some of these bands, if they lock in, could go on for a couple of hours and I think that's where the capability of picking up 4-5-6 centimetres in just a few hours from this system is quite possible" says Coulson "again the bands continue to move, shift around in the area but certainly some of them could lock in for a few hours giving these poor visibilities and somewhat heavier accumulations"
He says the afternoon commute will fall right in the midst of the snow.
"I think a good portion of that will already be on the ground by late this afternoon or early this evening in the Windsor area and that will slow things down a little bit when it comes to the drive home. " says Coulson "In addition to that we'll have a wind from the north gusting to 40 km/h and that could also cause local blowing snow in the more exposed areas"
Coulson says the snow should end later in the evening with a mostly clear day tomorrow.
