The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is reporting six additional cases of COVID-19 in the region for a total of 2,424.
Of the new cases, three are considered community spread, two are in the agri-farm sector and one is a resident in a retirement home.
During his daily briefing on Monday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed spoke about a new local Facebook group called Questioning Covid in Windsor-Essex.
According to its page, the group is planning a shopping trip to Devonshire Mall on Saturday without face masks or face covering.
Dr. Ahmed says that's against the health unit's order and the city's mask bylaw.
"They're in clear violation of Section 22 Order as well as the mask bylaw that the city put forward and all of these requirements are under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act," says Dr. Ahmed. "So it's a blatant disregard of the law so that's how I would see that."
Dr. Ahmed is asking the group to follow the laws when visiting public spaces.
"People are dying, people have died, there are millions and millions of people who are infected by COVID," he says. "Many of the measures that we are recommending, these are all science evidence based decisions."
Ahead of Saturday’s planned event, Dr. Ahmed says the health unit will be in contact with city officials and Windsor police.
"Any disregard of the applicable law it is a concern and who definitely want to make sure that the police, the bylaw, our people, they're all working together to keep our community safe," says Dr. Ahmed. "We definitely don't want to see any cases, we definitely do not want to see any disregard of the law as well."
AM800 has reached out to the group but has not heard back.
