Windsor lawyers remember the 76yearold lawyer.
Windsor lawyers are remembering the legendary Don Tait.
The 76-year-old lawyer passed away from complications stemming from a car crash in South Africa, where he had retired.
Tait is being remembered as a force in the courtroom, especially when he was cross-examining a witness.
Defence lawyer Bob DiPietro worked with Tait for ten years and admits Tait was impressive.
"Best trial lawyer I have ever seen in my life," said DiPietro. "When I was an articling student, I was shocked how good he was. He was just flamboyant, prepared and a very talented lawyer."
Defence lawyer Laura Joy says Tait was larger than life and remembers Tait as being very well spoken and very well dressed.
Lawyer Dan Scott worked with Tait for 5-6 years and says for Tait, clients came first.
"He was a guy who truly cared about his clients. The end of the practice was unfortunate but up until that point, he was an incredibly caring individual —brilliant."
Defence lawyer Frank Miller considered Tait a friend.
"A site to see [in court] when he was having a go at a witness. It was impressive and unfortunately he had other demons that ultimately caused him an awful lot of grief."
The Tait family tells AM800 News that they are working on a possible celebration of life for Tait in Windsor.
A book was written about Tait titled; "Getting Off. A criminal lawyer's road to redemption," authored by former journalist Veronique Mandal.
