The search for answers is underway at Windsor Regional Hospital after a stabbing on the weekend.
Hospital officials have called a news conference for 11am to address the incident.
A 26-year-old patient in the hospital's psychiatric ward was stabbed in the back of the neck by another patient.
The victim was on-leave from the ward to have a cigarette and spend some time with her grandmother.
The suspect - another patient at the ward - was returning from a day pass when the attack took place.
Hospital CEO David Musyj say the victim is in stable condition after emergency surgery.
"It's a terrible incident and I feel horrible for the young girl. I'm glad she's stable and I'm looking forward to the recovery."
The victim's father, Wilfred Lucier, is concerned about hospital security.
"There are security there, I just don't know how good the security is to allow patientsĀ or visitors into these wards. It raises my concerns that my daughter is not safe in this environment."
Lucier says the attacker and his daughter didn't know each other and were housed in different parts of the ward, making a motive even more puzzling.
The suspect was taken into custody by Windsor Police.
Musyj says he'd been releasedĀ to visit family without incident on six other occasions.
