The father of a Windsor girl badly burned in an intentionally set house fire is promising to attend all parole board hearings for the man found guilty of setting the fire.
Ken Kormendy,45, was sentenced yesterday to 11 years in prison for attempted murder in a fire on Balfour Blvd. in October 2015.
After a trial, Kormendy was found guilty of pouring gasoline in the bedroom where his girlfriend Sheri Rueda and her daughter slept, and lighting a fire.
Rueda was in the process of breaking up with Kormendy.
Isabel Rueda, who was 7-years-old at the time, suffered burns to 15% of her body including severe scarring to her face.
Speaking on AM800's the Lynn Martin Show, the girl's father Jose Rueda says the justice system has failed his daughter.
"We are angered and outraged at this glaring miscarriage of justice. We are dumbfounded," he says.
He says he was disturbed by some of the judge's comments.
"The judge stated that he believed that this was an isolated case for Kormendy's character. He tried to murder three people and they just chalked it down to an isolated incident."
Kormendy will be given credit for time already service and will be eligible for parole after a third of his sentence is served.
He maintains his innocence and plans to appeal.
