Longwoods Rd. in Chatham-Kent is expected to remain closed for the rest of the weekend after a fatal crash yesterday afternoon.
The highway was closed between Zone Rd. 6 and Zone Rd. 7 — near Parks Blueberries — just after 1pm on Friday as emergency crews responded to a crash involving a Toyota Camry and a Freightliner truck.
Police say the Camry was heading westbound on Longwoods Rd. when it crossed the centre line into the path of the truck, which was carrying a load of fertilizer. The crash saw the truck's fuel tank rupture and leak 75 litres of diesel fuel onto the roadway.
The roadway will remained closed for clean-up and the continuing police investigation.
The truck driver, a 58-year-old man from Lambton County, was sent to hospital, but has since been treated and released.
A 58-year-old Chatham man was driving the Camry and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being published at the family's request.
The highway was reopened as of Sunday evening.
