A 23-year-old Windsor man is now facing charges after a fatal crash in Lakeshore.
Police allege Jacob Cesare’s vehicle struck and killed motorcyclist Armando Zilio early Saturday morning on County Rd. 42 at Patillo Rd.
The 64-year-old Lakeshore native was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP have charged Cesare with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle / Cause accident with Fatality.
Constable Jay Denorer tells AM800 News it hasn't been determined whether Cesare had woken up early and gotten behind the wheel, but when an crash involving alcohol happens at 6:30am, his experience is a driver woke up thinking it was okay to drive.
"A lot of people go out and have a lot of drinks and they think if they have an hour or two of sleep they're going to be fine and they'll wake up the next day and start driving down the road," says Denorer. "However, alcohol takes a lot of time to dissipate from the body and you have to make sure it's out of your system before you get behind the wheel. If you don't, bad things can happen as we've seen with the fatality."
Denorer says moments where life has been lost are a horrible way to have to illustrate, "time is the only thing that will sober you up."
"These are the reasons why, because this can happen," he says. "There's a lot of people out there that say 'something like that would never happen to me' well, unfortunately this person probably thought it would never happen to them and got behind the wheel, drove, and it did happen."
He says Cesare is still in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
