City Council has approved new measures to crack down on loud vehicles.
Ward 6 Councillor Joanne Gignac was pushing for noise by-law amendment for loud vehicles in Windsor that would allow for tickets to be issued.
Gignac says she brought up the issue with loud vehicles disturbing residents years ago, but administration said tools to enforce a by-law weren't available.
"Whether that is amended muffler systems or even music playing during the summer months when people would like to enjoy sleeping with their windows open," she says.
Gignac believes education will be the goal, but the proposed amendments will put some consequences in place.
"It was kind of allowed to go by the way side, but with the wording from the Toronto by-law I think we're going to be able to co-ordinate enforcement activity with the police and by-law enforcement officers to address what's becoming a quality of life issue for people," says Gignac.
She expects her fellow councillors will support the move.
"I do know that a number of emails have been shared amongst council in general in terms of the noise issue, so I'm hoping it's something that council can support," she added.
Gignac says she's received complaints about loud exhaust systems, stereos and squealing tires during evening hours on residential streets throughout her ward.
At Monday afternoon's council meeting, it was decided that traffic blitzes will be held to update the public on the new bylaw.
