Provincial Police have now formally laid an arson charge from the fire at the playground in Lacasse Park.
Tecumseh Fire crews were called to the playground shortly before 6pm on Tuesday.
Captain Larry Morand says upon arrival, thick black smoke was seen coming from the structure and flames were about six to eight feet high.
A 13-year-old male is facing a charge of arson from the incident.
Damage is set at over $400,000, but town officials have indicated replacement could be more.
"This is a special flooring for special needs children so that there's no injury, that the town had purchased years ago," says Morand. "So what happens is because it's a hydrocarbon fire, in order for us to make sure the fire is extinguished we blanket it with foam."

He says the blaze produced a thick black smoke.
"It's a hydrocarbon base product so it produces very black accurate smoke so it could be seen from our fire station."
He says the playground was blanketed with foam.
"The first arriving crews when they arrived on scene, they had water on it within 45 seconds and as soon as the water was put on it, they started with a deluge off the first engine while hand lines were being pulled out and I would say we had most of the fire extinguished in 12 minutes."
It will take until next year to replace the fire damage accessible playground equipment.
