The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex is climbing.
There are now nine confirmed local cases, with one woman in the hospital and Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ahmed says having more confirmed cases put the community at a higher risk.
"All these cases we are getting in the community is travel outside of the country and only one case travelled within Ontario," says Dr. Ahmed. "Many of wondering about the pending results and it's impact on our control measures, so far almost all except one have mild symptoms and are currently recovering in home isolation."
The latest cases were both men who had recently travelled to Michigan. One of them works in a Michigan health centre. The health unit is still gathering details about the ninth case.
669 people have been tested and 462 results are still pending.
Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette emphasized those pending results should be treated as "potential positives" and they are in self-isolation.
Dr. Ahmed says people need to focus on what they can control, keep a routine, stay at home and talk to family and friends over the phone about their feelings.
