The local health unit is reporting 36 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says 33 of the 36 new cases are in people who work in the agri-food sector.
He says it's important to note that it is not one farm or facility seeing the cases, but many.
"I would like to remind our employers and employees in the community to follow public health guidance," says Dr. Ahmed. "As workers come together just like gathering in the community this increases the risk of transmission for COVID-19."
When it comes to the beautiful weather like we had over the weekend, Dr. Ahmed says he saw the controversial photos from Toronto of people gathering in Trinity Bellwoodw Park and he says it scares him.
"Very scared for our community and if things like that happens that's exactly something that can trigger a second wave that everyone is talking about and even from the past practices from our history lesson 1918, the Spanish Flu, the second wave was much bigger and much more deadlier," says Dr. Ahmed.
On that note, if you happen to an event planned for later this year, Dr. Ahmed says you should consider postponing it because there are still restrictions in place for large gatherings.
"We don't know how it would change," he says. "We don't know how COVID-19 will continue to behave with all these easing of restrictions so there's a lot of unknowns at this point but until we have a stable vaccine which is effective and available for everyone, we want be able to say with certainty what the future will be like."
15,083 tests have been done with 777 results pending. 16 people remain in hospital.
63 people have died from the virus in Windsor-Essex with no new deaths have been reported since May 16.
