The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is reporting three new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 999.
Of the new cases, one person is a healthcare worker, one person works in the agri-farm sector and one is a close contact of a previously confirmed case.
Speaking on Friday morning, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says with several marches and peaceful protests planned for the weekend as it relates to the death of George Floyd in the U.S., he is reminding the public that large gatherings are still not recommended so if you plan to attend, precautions must be taken.
“Any attendee must wear a non-medical mask which has breathable material, clean hands regularly with soap or water or alcohol based hand sanitizer and do not participate if you are sick or have been told to self-isolate,” says. Dr. Ahmed.
“Maintain two meters of physical distancing from everyone else, avoid shouting or yelling, this ma increase the amount of respiratory droplets and dampen your mask."
If someone does plan on participating in a rally or gathering of any type, Dr. Ahmed says its best to avoid shouting or yelling if participating in any type of rally or protest.
“In addition, shouting and yelling could compromise your ability to breathes, especially when you are wearing a mask."
No additional deaths have been reported in the past 24-hours, a total of 66 people have died in Windsor-Essex from COVID-19. 567 people have recovered.
