The local health unit is reporting an additional 27 cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex.
14 of the new cases are in the community, eight are workers in the agri-food sector, one is a local healthcare worker and four are still under investigation.
At his daily briefing on Wednesday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed spoke about how younger people are getting the virus and says he’s concerned with the trend.
"We want to make sure that those people shouldn't lose their guard and they should continue to practice all the public health measures," says Dr. Ahmed.
There are currently eight people with the virus in hospital, five of them are in the Intensive Care Unit and Dr. Ahmed believes the community cases are increasing because some are ignoring public health measures that have been put in place.
"We know that there are people who are now gathering and having those social gatherings with large number of people and that's something that we need to be concerned about," he says.
There are currently outbreaks at nine workplaces in outbreak, seven in the agriculture sector in Kingsville and Leamington, one in the manufacturing sector in Leamington and one in the manufacturing sector in Windsor.
At local long-term care homes, the health unit continues to deal with outbreaks at Village of Aspen Lake in Windsor where two staff members have tested positive and Augustine Villa in Kingsville where one staff member has tested positive.
