Grade 11 and 12 students in Windsor-Essex who have incomplete immunization records will soon face suspensions.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says students born in 1999 and 2000 have received their second immunization notices this week.
The notices were handed out at the schools.
If they aren't properly vaccinated, suspensions will begin February 28, 2017.
Manager of Healthy Schools Program Judy Allen says 8,200 notices were sent out in early December and this week it was down to 5,600 notices.
"We have only heard back from about 32% of the 8,200 notices that we sent out so we want to make sure the notices are getting home and if you have a student in Grade 11 or 12, you should ask them if they have received one of these notices," says Allen
"For the vast majority of these students, they've had the immunization but the information has never been reported to the health unit and most parents don't realize it is their responsibility to do that."
Final suspension notices for students will be mailed to the student's home next month.
It's part of the Immunization of School Pupils Act which became law in 1990.
The health unit will be providing extra immunization clinics for those who don't have a family doctor.
