A Windsor man has been arrested following an unprovoked assault in the downtown.
Police were called Sunday at 1pm to the 300 block of Chatham St. West near Dougall after a woman called 9-11 saying she had been assaulted.
She had been waiting for the bus when a man she didn't know began pacing around her.
The woman asked him to stop but he continued.
She walked into the bus depot and the man followed her. She soon left the depot and the man continued to follow her despite her pleas to be left alone.
He began shouting at her and touched her inappropriately.
She managed to call 9-11 and the man approached her again and punched and kicked her.
Police arrived on scene and arrested the man. She received minor injuries.
Windsor Police Sergeant Steve Betteridge says the key for the victim in this type of situation is to remain in a public place.
"If anyone is ever in a position like that, if they are being harassed, annoyed and it seems to be escalating to the point, yes they are calling for police assistance, go to a place of safety, an open business that has people around." he says.
"If you don't have a cell phone, reach out, call out, scream out that you need help. Call 9-11 and make some noise and get a commotion going on so that people know that something isn't right."
Casey Hoyt, 35, is charged with sexual assault and assault.
