The University of Windsor is hoping to transform a downtown city street into a pedestrian corridor.
Freedom Way stretches between University Ave. and Park St., alongside the former Windsor Armouries.
Director of Communications John Coleman says the goal is to create a study space for students, as well as an area where events like film screenings, performances, art exhibits and festivals could be hosted.
Coleman says the first step will be getting approval from the city. "In the past it's been a street where traffic has been on. It's, of course, been closed down over the last little while because of the construction and our hope is that we will work with the city and be able to turn it into a pedestrian mall," he says.

The university will be looking for feedback from business owners and the public.
"Part of this process is we want to show some ideas that we have, virtually to the neighbours that we have down there, but anybody who is interested in the core and different ways that the city can become more pedestrianized," says Coleman. "We think it's a great space and we think we have some ideas and we just want to get a lot of input from people."
The university will be hosting an open house today to show off its vision for the 'Freedom Way Link'.
The open house will run 12:30pm to 2:30pm along Freedom Way.
