Collective bargaining gets underway today between the University of Windsor and its professors.
The 800 professors are represented by the Windsor University Faculty Association.
WUFA President, Dr. Jeff Noonan, says this is just the first meeting, aimed at setting the rules of the talks. He says compensation is part of what's on the table, but there are respect issues as well:
"There's issues around workload, overall respect for faculty, and some issues around governance," says Noonan. "The way our perspective is incorporated into the university."
He says the goal is to reach a deal without a work stoppage this time.
"There was some drama last time from our perspective and I'm sure from the university's [perspective] — but I won't speak for them," says Noonan. "We want to sity down and work systematically and professionally through the issues, we haven't taken a strike vote."
The current contract expires June 30, 2017 but Noonan says that's not a hard deadline to reach a deal.
