Something new for the University of Windsor.
University president Dr. Alan Wildeman says the university will be hiring a recruiter to work in the Greater Toronto Area.
He says it's a new position with the goal of attracting GTA students to the university.
Dr. Wildeman says most universities have a presence in the GTA.
"The population of Ontario is growing largely because of the GTA and that's where most of the university aged population is going to be growing," says Wildeman. "We want to have an opportunity to have a stronger presence there and see if we can benefit from that in some ways so we'll try this for a year or two and see how it goes."
He says there are many university aged students in the GTA.
"That's where the demographics are shifting traumatically right now in Ontario and I think it's safe to say most universities have some kind of a presence in the GTA right now," says Wildeman.
Dr. Wildeman says last year about 230 students from the GTA attended the university and says the successful applicant will be based in Toronto. The university hopes to have the position filled by September.
