The University of Windsor is getting significant funding from the federal government for a new science lab building on campus.
Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains announced a grant of nearly $15-million toward the new Science, Research and Innovation Facility.
The $30-million building is already under construction next to the existing Essex Hall.

Bains says this grant ties in directly with the federal government's innovation agenda and credits the university for playing a critical role in the drive for innovation in the auto industry among many other things.
He says this should be a significant upgrade to the science faculties. "Students teachers and researchers will work in state-of-the-art facilities to support the country's best research. They will collaborate in specially designed spaces that support life-long learning and skills training."
The province is contributing just over $2.5-million with almost $13-million to be funded by the university.
University President Dr. Alan Wildeman expects the new building will be completed by the spring of 2018.
It will be connected directly to the existing Essex Hall.
The university is developing a plan for the future of the 1963-era Essex Hall, which also houses the Drama Faculty.
