The restoration of the Windsor Armouries has helped the University of Windsor earn an Ontario Heritage Award.
It received the Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation which recognizes exceptional projects in heritage conservation.
The university transformed the 1901 armouries into a state-of-the-art School of Creative Arts.
Over four years, the armouries was updated and restored with the interior and exterior bricks returned to their original red.
In January 2018, about 500 students, faculty and staff moved in.
The old Armouries houses 12 practice rooms for musicians, a performance and practice hall, library, classroom and photo and painting studios.
To remember its history, the main lobby of the Armouries will be named 'Veterans Hall.'
The award was presented during a ceremony at Queen's Park on February 22.
