Staff at Community Living Essex is making a five year commitment to the 'On Track to Success' program in Leamington.
United Way heads up the poverty reduction program which helps youth graduate high school and attend college or university.
Tammy Moir is with CUPE Local 3137 — the union representing the 600 workers at Community Living.
She says 'On Track' is a great program.
"It helps children who are facing poverty stay in school and it helps them with transportation, clothing and it's more of a mentoring program," says Moir. "It helps them get to college where as without this donation the likelihood of them going to college would have been slim to none."
Moir says giving to 'On Track' was an easy choice.
"Every year we try to support something in our community and we all have children and a lot of our members are single parents. So we know the struggles of getting children to basketball or medical appointments and working full time. So it just seemed like it hit every element that we struggle with as working parents," says Moir.
Local 3137 is donating $30,000 over the five years to sponsor a student.
This is the second year United Way has done the 'On Track' program in Leamington.
