The finalists for the United Way I believe in My Community Awards have been announced.
A total of 16 organizations, individuals and businesses have been named in half a dozen categories.
A special honour is going to a local couple who have been longtime contributors and participants in a wide variety of charitable causes.
Dave and Barb Bjarneson are being presented with the Leading the Way Award.
Barb Bjarneson is honoured to have been named: "we're quite humbled and honoured to have been given this award its just for us it's something for us that's important because it helps make the community we're living in a better place"
Dave Bjarneson is modest about being named: "it's not about us, it's about the world. We can help others and improve the lives of others and by doing so we make the world as a whole a better place even if it's just a small improvement"
United Way CEO Lorraine Goddard says the awards are a chance to thank contributors: "this is an opportunity for us to highlight some of the contributions that many people give of their time, of their talent and their financial resources. So we feel truly blessed and honoured to be able to do this through the I Believe in My Community Awards"
The awards will be handed out at an evening at Caesars Windsor March 29th, which is co-sponsored by AM800.
