The union representing Salvation Army workers in Windsor is asking people to stop donating to the charity.
The request comes after the Salvation Army decided to close its Thrift Store on Walker Rd. because it is no longer financially viable.
Union Business Agent Ted Mansell says the charity is not acting very 'Christian-like' as it tosses 22 people out of work without trying to save their jobs.
Mansell is discouraging people from donating which includes the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
"Do not give them any financial donations because bad behaviour should not be rewarded," he says. "There are plenty of other worthwhile charities and deserving charities in the Windsor-Essex community that deserve our financial donations much more than the salvation army."
He says Windsor has supported the charity over the years, but it no longer deserves the support.
"On a moment's notice, they decide to heck with Windsor, we are pulling out and to heck with the workers," he adds.
Workers met with the union Tuesday morning to discuss their options and many expressed frustration, despair and anger.
Another meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 7pm.
The store on Walker Rd. will close on September 1 after being in service for 23 years.
