A University of Windsor political science professor says the U.S. election results prove polls are 'complete garbage', and that the world of politics has entered uncharted territory.
Lydia Miljan told the Lynn Martin Show on AM800 that Trump's unexpected win proves polling models are flawed and aren't a true indication of what voters are really thinking.
"I wasn't looking at the individual vote polls," says Miljan. "I did what I always say, 'look at the trends', see what the trends are, and the trends looked like it was going to be a close race but every model based on those polls suggested Hillary Clinton would win."
She says most exit polls now show the majority of people made their decisions back in the summer and weren't influenced by recent talk of scandals and the debates.
Miljan also points to a new political landscape with Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who she says aren't as different as people might think.
"This is sort of a new world that we're living in. Sort of the celebrity politician, the outrageous, let's 'shoot from the hip', do something 'out-of-the-box' policitican. It's clearly resonating with people."
Miljan says both Trump and Trudeau had very simplistic messages.
