The local Salvation Army along with the Downtown Mission are both serving thanksgiving meals Sunday.
The Mission will serve lunch beginning at 12noon while the Sally Ann will host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at 5pm.
Shannon Wise is the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Salvation Army and says the meal is possible thanks to a donation from local philanthropist Sam Sinjari.
"His name is obviously familiar to a lot of folks by now, he's donated turkeys, he's donated ham and really provided a great meal for us to serve about 300 people," says Wise.
Wise says a big turnout is expected.
"There's a lot of people who utilize the community meal and Thanksgiving meals like these because maybe they're lonely," says Wise. "They're not necessarily without a home or a place to stay, they're maybe just searching for company, so it's a great way to meet new people, to welcome them into our doors and be all inclusive."
She says if you would like a Thanksgiving meal, the doors at the Centre for Hope are open.
"People can just show up on Sunday," says Wise. "The meal starts at five, it runs until seven and we are going to be having a special worship before hand if they'd like to come a little bit early as well."
The Downtown Mission's luncheon takes place at the site on Victoria Ave. while the Salvation Army's dinner happens at the Centre for Hope location on Church St.
Street Help Homeless Centre on Wyandotte St. E. is also holding a Thanksgiving dinner on Monday at 4pm.
