Two Chatham men have been arrested and charged following a break and enter investigation at a hydro compound.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, around 2 a.m., a Hydro One security employee observed two suspects inside a secured compound in Howard Township and contacted police.
Chatham-Kent Police responded quickly and surrounded the property before deploying a drone to assist in locating the suspects.
Officers were able to locate one of the suspects within the compound who was taken into custody without incident.
The second suspect was seen fleeing the area into the nearby tree line. Police then deployed the K9 Unit to assist.
Following a search of the area, the service’s police dog located the suspect hiding within the wooded area, leading to his arrest.
As a result, a 34-year-old man and a 38-year-old man - both from Chatham - have each been charged with break and enter to commit mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
