Two people from the Toronto area have been charged in a human trafficking investigation in Windsor.
Police were called May 9 to a hotel in downtown Windsor for a woman in distress.
She told police she had been the victim of human trafficking and had been assaulted, sexually assaulted and threatened with a firearm.
She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The victim met the male suspect in the summer of 2017. They began dating and then the man began to control the relationship, forcing her into prostitution.
He allegedly took her identification and was controlling her actions.
On May 8, the pair came to Windsor with another woman so the women could work as escorts.
The 27-year-old man is charged with human trafficking, sexual assault, forcible confinement, withholding documents for the purpose of trafficking.
A 24-year-old woman is charged with human trafficking, robbery, assault causing bodily harm.
Police are not releasing their names to protect the identity of the victim who is in her 20s.
