Tourism Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island has shown off the Pelee Island to local hoteliers.
As part of an annual familiarization tour, TWEPI invited staff from local hotels to visit the island and for the first time, staff from local hotels took part in the tour.
TWEPI CEO Gordon Orr says many visitors to the region ask hotel staff about Pelee Island and the best way to promote it and sale it, is to visit it.
"It's important to show off Pelee Island because it's a jewel for sure, it is one of our biggest tourism assets," he says. "It is certainly one of those questions we get a lot, it is in our name sake so people ask us about Pelee Island."
He admits about 40% of the people on the tour had never been to the island themselves.
"We have always said, the best way to visit Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island is to experience it first hand," he adds.
20 people took part in the tour on Wednesday including seven people from the hotel industry.
The tour included a trip and lunch to the island winery, meeting the new mayor Ray Durocher and visiting different tourism spots.
It also showcased the safe transportation to and from the island.
