Tourism Windsor-Essex Pelee Island is looking to capitalize on new Air Canada flights to Montreal.

Last week, Air Canada announced it will begin non-stop flights to Montreal this summer.

It provides an opportunity for local residents to head to Montreal, but also allows Montreal area residents to fly here.

TWEPI Vice President Lynnette Bain says it hasn't come up with a strategy, yet. "There are so many niche markets that are really popular in the French community. Number one that comes to mind is birding, cycling and wineries, because wine country there is not a great amount of wineries in Quebec," Bain says.

The new flights begin July 2nd.

"The groundwork is already in place to capitalize on the new flights," says Bain. "We do have relationships through our destination of Canada so we will work with the tourism agency in Montreal to see how we can partner with them on some cross-promotion between the two of us."

Bain admits the new flights were a hot topic in the office.  She expects TWEPI will focus on digital campaign in Montreal.
