Get ready to boogie!
TRUE Festival returns to Amherstburg this Saturday evening with a 70's themed disco dance party, community spirit and a celebration of artistic expression.
This year features a busy evening of events, including drag queen performances, fire and glow performances, corn hole and s'mores stations, and more.
TRUE Fest is an event that aims to create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, where the community can come together in the drab winter months and have fun.
The entire family is welcome to come out, and those attending are encouraged to dress up in your best 70's themed clothes.
Jennifer Ibrahim, Manager of Economic Development, Tourism and Culture for the Town, says it's a jam-packed evening.
"We have Hoop You which are fire dancers, we have four drag queens doing performances, and we have fire tables where people can go and purchase s'mores packages. We're really celebrating winter, and this event is one where our whole community really comes together."
She says despite some concerns at a council meeting in late November over the drag performances, she's heard from residents who are very excited.
"We really do have a kind, and accepting community, and I think it just shows with the organizations that have come forth to be part of the event. And you can also see it in all of the businesses that participate."
Ibrahim says everyone is encouraged to dress up.
"The theme is always disco, year after year, so people really have a lot of fun with it. Some people come wearing rainbow flags, and glow lights. It's a lot of fun. Some people come wearing brightly coloured wigs, it's just about having fun and embracing the evening."
This is the third year the event has run in the Town.
The festival takes place on Saturday between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. in downtown Amherstburg on Dalhousie Street between Richmond and Murray.
Windsor-Essex Pride Fest is providing a round-trip transportation opportunity from Windsor to Amherstburg to attend the event.
