Testimony has begun in the trial of a teenager charged in a fatal crash in Amherstburg that killed a 16-year-old.
The teen pleaded not guilty to careless driving in the crash a year ago that killed Nick Dyer, 16, of LaSalle.
On February 13, 2017, police were called to a single vehicle rollover on Concession 4 North around 3:30pm and found the vehicle on fire.
Amherstburg Constable Keith Humber was one of the first officers to arrive on scene and found the vehicle upside down and about 20 yards from the roadway.
He said three teens were found on one side of the roadway covered in mud.
Humber testified a fourth teen, who was Nick Dyer, was found on the other side of the road.
The defence is arguing the crash was the result of a mechanical problem, not careless driving, as a witness reported hearing a tire pop just before the crash.
The trial is slated for two days.
