It's 31 years and still going strong.
Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare kicked off its annual Tree of Lights campaign today.
People can buy an ornament in memory or honour of a loved one. The donor will receive a paper ornament to hang on their tree and another ornament will be hung on the tree in the hospital.
Proceeds of this year's campaign will support the Transitional Stability Centre in downtown Windsor to buy basic needs like food vouchers and clothing. The centre is a resource for homeless people facing addition issues and those with mental health concerns.
Integrated Manager for Mental Health Services Patricia Thomas says the money will help to buy basic needs for clients at the centre.
"Since we have moved to our downtown location, right on Ouellette, we are finding that people who are homeless or struggling to make ends meet are coming in for supports, but they require some clothing, they require some vouchers for food."
She says the money will help pay for the most basic needs, and they help a wide range of people.
"It can be someone who is struggling with life stressors, and needs help with anxiety and depression,” says Thomas. “It can be someone who is struggling with poverty, homelessness and addictions."
Since April 2016, 1000 clients have walked through the door.
