As the world reacts to the US Presidential edict to extreme vetting for people entering the states form seven Muslim nations, the Iraqi Ambassador to Canada is visiting Windsor.
Abdul Kareem Kaab is here to meet with the local Iraqi community and to establish consular services in the Windsor area. He says the actions of the Trump administration fly in the face of what's actually happening in Iraq.
"Iraqi people has alone defeated the most notorious terrorist groups and then we are punishing them by issuing a ban to reach or travel to the US," says Kaab.
He says the travel restrictions only support the terrorist groups like ISIS.
"That will give them a good motive to recruit others to bring them to their terrorist groups to fight with them against the world they will say we are the victim," he says. "Some people are calling for also banning the Americans from entering Iraq and this has a direct effect on the war against the terrorism just now."
Kaab was a political prisoner under the former regime of Saddam Hussein and had been jailed four times.
He was appointed ambassador to Canada in March 2016.
