A strike is looming at Transit Windsor.
Transit's bargaining team along with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 616 return to the bargaining table on Friday to try and reach a tentative deal before workers hit the picket line on Monday at 12:01 a.m.
The latest round of talks resumed on Wednesday but according to ATU International Vice President Manny Sforza, the past two days have been 'extremely slow' and 'challenging' even with a federal mediator and the Director General of Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services of Canada assisting both parties.
The union announced its strike plans earlier this week after the two sides failed to reach a tentative agreement last weekend.
At that time, the union said talks were at an impasse.
The city issued a statement after the union issued its strike notice, asking transit riders to prepare for alternate transportation arrangements.
Amherstburg, LaSalle, and Leamington would be affected if a strike does happen, as those municipalities have agreements with Transit Windsor.
Local school boards would also be impacted along with students from St. Clair College and University of Windsor.
A key issue at the bargaining table remains to be 10 paid sick days that are federally mandated for transit workers.
There are roughly 300 unionized Transit Windsor employees.
