The announcement this week that Toyota is adding a Lexus model to it's Cambridge plant could bring more employment to Windsor.
The Kautex-Textron facility in Windsor currently makes plastic gasoline tanks for the Toyota plants in Cambridge and Woodstock.
Unifor Local 195 represents about 200 workers in Windsor and Vice President Emile Nabbout says "With the product we provide for them we'll be the sole plastic manufacturer in Ontario and we will say under the assumption that that business can filter into increase of the workforce and volume in the Windsor facility of Kautex-Textron."
Nabbout says other auto makers should be able to grow their businesses in Ontario.
"We really need to send a message to say if Toyota is able to bring more business to Ontario and invest and make a profit, why can't the others do the same thing"
Nabbout is still looking into whether other Windsor area plants may win jobs from the Toyota announcement.
Production of the Lexus NX SUV is to start in 2022.
