A significant number of senior officers at the Windsor Police Service are retiring.
Chief Al Frederick has previously announced he is leaving his position next year, and now Deputy Chief Vince Power has said he'll be doing the same. On top of that, seven more senior officers with close to 30 years of experience are retiring this month.
Frederick says there 's a plan in place for seamless transition:
"We've committed to succession planning and preparing people for the future," he confirms. "We have amazing people in this organization, ready throughout the organization to step in to different roles and we're extremely confident that'll take place."
There is opportunity when personnel rotate, says Frederick.
"Every time you move out of a system or move from one person to another you hope for system improvement and organizational improvement," he says. "I think that's been our foundation over the last number of years and I don't anticipate that changing."
According to Frederick, the role of the police service will not change regardless of who takes the roles of those leaving.
"That we're here to serve the community as very best we can and in partnership the community and we do it better than most."
A national search is currently underway to find a replacement for Chief Frederick when he leaves.
