A big name in music is heading this way - to the city that he holds near and dear to his heart.
Long-time singer/songwriter, Tony Orlando, will take the stage at the Colosseum next month.
Orlando says he owes his career to CKLW, in particular, to former CKLW Music Director Rosalie Trombley.
Trombley was known for her ability to pick hit records during a career that spanned from 1968 into the '80s.
Orlando says he can trace the beginning of his success to the station.
"If there's one marker in my entire career that really changed my life in show business, as a recording artist, it was that station."
Trombley's influence spread across borders and Orlando says having a record chosen by her was a blessing for many artists.
"She was responsible for putting on records that she thought would make it and people would clamour to get on CKLW because she had a 50,000 Watt spread all over Canada and the US."
He says Trombley had noticed his work, but after not being able to fit a previous record into the rotation, she made a promise that launched Orlando's career.
"If you give me the next record that's in the ballpark, I will really consider putting it on the air, the next record was 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon'. She was the first person to ever play that record, and because of the response that CKLW got overnight, the record company realized that we had a major record."
Orlando will be playing the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor on Thursday, August 10.
