Tigers Trounce Angels

James McCann hits a grand slam in the win

James McCann smacked a grand slam in the third inning as the Tigers trounced the Angels 9-3 in the opener of a four-game series at Comerica Park.

Leonys Martin also homered in the seventh as Detroit built a 7-0 lead.

Matthew Boyd gave up just two hits over five scoreless innings for his third win.

The Tigers have won four-of-five since a five-game skid.

Albert Pujols and Andrelton Simmons doubled in runs in the eighth and Mike Trout homered in the ninth for LA.  Tyler Skaggs took the loss.

LA is 3-and-4 on its 10-game road trip.

The Tigers continue their series with the Angels today at Comerica Park. Michael Fulmer is slated to start for Detroit opposite LA's Nick Tropeano.

First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.
